Ja Morant improved the injury report against the Blazers

The Memphis Grizzlies have started the season 10-13 off the back of some a solid injury to their talisman, Ja Morant. Morant has missed a total of nine games this season, averaging 17.9 points per game, his lowest output since his freshman year.
As things stand, he can be expected to miss at least one more game despite being close to returning after suffering a right calf strain on Nov. 15 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to official injury report. now, The 26-year-old is listed as doubtful for the upcoming match against the Portland Trail Blazers, an improvement over his “out” status.
While Memphis was initially expected to reevaluate him after two weeks, coach Tuomas Iisal’s latest update lists him as “day-to-day” with visible progress in non-contact and full-walk drills. Morant was ruled out again for the Dec. 5 matchup against the Clippers and was first listed as questionable for a potential return game Sunday against Portland, with a more realistic goal appearing to be the Dec. 12 game against Utah.
His absence comes during a turbulent seventh season marked by trade rumors, friction with the coaching staff, a one-game suspension and poor statistical output, including a career-low 35.9% shooting from the field and just 16.7% from three. Memphis was 4-8 with him and 5-5 without him.
The Grizzlies’ point guard depth remains depleted due to multiple injuries, and Morant’s return will still be considered a big boost when it eventually happens. Currently, Memphis is struggling in the 9th place standings in the crowded Western Conference.
Their current form dictates a lack of a playoff run this season, and Morant is undoubtedly the star most likely to change that narrative in the coming period. He will need to improve his form for that, though, and the 26-year-old has looked a shadow of his former self whenever he has been available this season.
