Ja Morant is considered the backup plan for the Heat if the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade falls through
The Miami Heatunder the tutelage of Hall of Famer Pat Riley, have always been in the business of acquiring superstar talent. With every superstar that becomes available on the market, it’s no coincidence that the Heat are always on. The same is the case right now in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sweepstakes — with The Heat prepared to make a godfather-level offer on the table to lead to the 2021 NBA Finals MVP.
However, the Heat may not be able to match the exorbitant price tag the Milwaukee Bucks set for the greatest player in franchise history. The The Minnesota Timberwolves seem to be in the lead in the trade pursuit of Antetokounmpo, which means it could serve other interested teams to find alternatives on the market.
To that end, ClutchPoints NBA Insider Brett Siegel brought in the Memphis Grizzlies star I Morant as a potential target for the Heat, as Morant is more likely to be traded after the departure of Jaren Jackson Jr. in Utah Jazz.
“The big name for the Heat that I would watch is Ja Morant,” Siegel said on Clutch Scoops.

Can Ja Morant get his career back on track with the Heat?

Morant was pretty brilliant in 2022, and the Grizzlies looked like they would be a contending team for years to come. That didn’t happen. Morant has faced off-court issues, which have then been compounded by his own injury issues, and appears to have declined to the point where he is no longer a viable franchise-building player.
But The Heat could possibly look at Morant as a low buyout candidatesomeone who can get his career back on track under Riley’s watchful eye. Heat Culture could eventually get Morant locked up, and the locked-up version of the 26-year-old guard could still have a few All-Star appearances or even All-NBA honors.
