Jake Retzlaff puts up crazy first half stats against Memphis
Jake Retzlaff had an impressive first half performance Tulane Green Wave vs. No. 22 Memphis Tigers on Saturday night.
Entering the contest, Tulane had a 6-2 record. They shined as one of the best teams in the American Conference, which made them qualify for the College Football Playoff.
The Green Wave needed a win over the Tigers, who are ranked in the AP Top 25. A win over them would boost their resume by a significant margin, giving them a solid shot at postseason action in addition to bowl eligibility.
Retzlaf understood the importance of the match as he did performed at a high level against the Tigers defense. During the first half, he completed 14 of 15 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score himself.

Jake Retzlaff’s outstanding efforts in the first half proved to be the difference. He helped Tulane pull off a 38-32 upset win over No. 22 Memphis, adding a ranked win to their resume.
The Green Wave controlled all the momentum for the first three quarters. They boasted a 38-17 lead over that span, lighting up the Tigers’ defense with multiple touchdowns while holding their offense in check. Even when Memphis scored 15 points in the fourth quarter for a rally attempt, it wasn’t enough as Tulane made enough defensive plays to stop the comeback.
Retzlaff didn’t have the same impact as in the first half, but was still solid. He completed 16 of 23 passes for 332 yards and three touchdowns. He was also active in the rushing attack, making 10 carries for 43 yards and a score.
Javin Gordon excelled in the running game, with 12 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown. Four players made three or more catches during the game. Bryce Bohannon led the unit with four receptions for 101 yards. Shaz Preston had three catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Anthony Brown-Stevens had three receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Zicarl Lewis Jr. he caught three passes for 37 yards.
The Green Wave will be looking forward to their next match, as it will be at home. They host the Florida Atlantic Owls on November 15th at 4pm ET.
