Jalen Brunson will not play against the Heat after spraining his ankle

The New York Knicks they are 7-4 and play the Miami Heat on Friday at the Emirates NBA Cup the game. However, the Knicks’ chances of winning took a significant hit on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Knicks lost to the Orlando Magic, and to make matters worse, Brunson suffered an injury and was seen leaving Madison Square Garden on crutches.

Before the game, star Jalen Brunson was diagnosed with sprained ankle, according to Shams Charani of ESPN.

“New York Knicks star Jaylen Brunson suffered a Grade 1 right ankle sprain and will miss Friday’s game against the Miami Heat, sources tell ESPN. He will be evaluated daily.”

Brunson scored 32 points Tuesday against the Memphis Grizzlies and then had 31 in a loss to the Magic, though Knicks fans wondered why he was in the game in the late loss.

This season, Brunson is averaging 28 points per game with 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds, so he has been an important part of the team.

Now, he’s out on Friday, and that could be a tough blow for the Knicks. How long he is out remains to be seen, and Charania said Brunson will be “evaluated daily.”

The Knicks face the Heat on Friday at home, then travel to Miami on Monday to begin a five-game road trip.
