Jalen Suggs provided a glimmer of hope with an improved status against the Hornets

As Orlando Magic star Jalen Suggs has a hip contusion after an injury in the NBA Cup semifinals against the New York Knicks on Dec. 13, he hopes to return sooner rather than later. After Suggs’ injury setback with Magic, his status for Friday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets appears to be a positive development.

Suggs is currently listed as “suspicious” for Friday night’s contest against the Hornets, and while some may ask: Why is that a positive development? With Suggs missing the last four games with a hip strain and likely to be fifth on Friday, it’s the first time in a while that he hasn’t been listed as anything other than “out” immediately.

There’s no doubt that even though it’s small, it gives Suggs a glimmer of hope that he’s close to returning. On December 16, Suggs would say that he is “do well” and that he is determined to get back to 100 percent.

“I’m doing good,” Suggs said, per Jason Beede . “I got to spend some time with our (medical) team and get my body back on track. So I’m good.”

“I’m fine. Just working on the body, working on the mind, get everything right and get ready (to) get back in the game.”

However, there is one aspect that hasn’t changed for Suggs, and that is that there is no a “recovery schedule” for the guard, just as it was when he was diagnosed with a hip contusion.

Either way, it remains to be seen when Suggs will return, with his next chance coming Saturday against the Denver Nuggets, as he will likely be out Friday against the Hornets. Orlando is currently 17-13, which puts them in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
