Jamal Crawford tells Chris Paul
Chris Paul etc Jamal Crawford played together for five seasons in the Clippers jersey. On Saturday morning at his former team’s practice, Jamal Crawford, now a consultant for NBC, wanted to share a few anecdotes that sum up CP3’s personality and boundless passion for basketball.
“Chris is one of the few people I’ve met in thirty years who has a real love affair with basketball.”he describes. “I remember our first season together: one day, outside, I went to see him in his room. When I came in, he had one game on TV and two others on two different computers. And he was focused on all three at once, moving from one to the other like a juggler.”
“Another anecdote struck me, especially since we’re at the All-Star Game. One year he came back from the All-Star Game and we had our first team practice. In those days, the first practice after the All-Star Game was easily two and a half hours. After practice, we played one-on-one for at least an hour and forty-five minutes. He’s one of the most competitive people I know.
“When you make the decision to retire, all that negativity goes away”
Chris Paul’s storied career has ended in failure, and he’s out the back door after being cut by the Clippers. For Jamal Crawford, however, this decision will allow him to shine a light on CP3’s entire career, rather than stopping at this final chapter.
“When you’re at the end of your career, you get a lot of criticism or a lot of comparisons to the player you were before”Jamal Crawford recalls. “When you make the decision to retire, all that negativity goes away. I’m sure he’ll get all the praise he deserves. We’re talking about one of the best players in history, not just one of the best leaders.”
In his statement, Chris Paul highlighted the sacrifices he and his family had to make over the past six seasons while playing away from Los Angeles. For Jamal Crawford, the main thing is for his former teammate: after such a career, he can now concentrate on his family and his son’s young career.
“Now he’s at home, at peace, with his son, Little Chris. He can follow him through his formative years and help him get on the path that could lead him to the NBA.”concludes Jamal Crawford. “He deserves to do what he wants in his life, because he gave so much to basketball.”
