Jamal Murray’s positives from Denver’s narrow loss to the Cavs

The Denver Nuggets fell 108-113 to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night. Despite the defeat, the point guard Jamal Murray found some reasons for optimism despite a disappointing result for the undermanned Nuggets.

Denver entered the fourth quarter with a solid 97-88 lead before being outscored 25-11. However, Murray emphasized growth takes place within the team’s improvised rotation as they navigate a brutal stretch without their starters.

“Building our chemistry, building our relationship. The way we move the ball, the way we share the ball. How we go into every game, our approach to every game. Our execution,” Murray said after the game. “It’ll be better when everyone’s back. It’s a crucial time for us and I think we’re handling it well, except the shots weren’t falling tonight, and that’s always bullshit.”

Nuggets chemistry grows stronger through adversity

With four of their five starters injured, including three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets were able to show resilience for much of the game.

Murray led the Nuggets with 34 points. Close behind was Peyton Watson, who moved from the bench to the starting lineup and had 21 points, four rebounds and three assists. Another bench addition, Spencer Jones, was also productive with 13 points and six rebounds. Even players like Jalen Pickett and Zeke Nnaji, who have seen sporadic opportunities this season, have excelled in expanded roles.

Murray’s positive outlook reflects a veteran who understands that growth often comes from adversity. The ball movement and collective effort the Nuggets demonstrated Friday will only get stronger once the roster returns to full health.

“We’re just playing together, that’s the biggest thing. It’s fun to play together when the balls are bouncing,” Murray said. “Everybody that’s on the bench is coming into the game. So it’s great for everybody to bring that winning mentality. We thought we could do that today.”

The Nuggets will look to get back into the win column when they take on the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday afternoon.
