James Harden drops a 3-word truth bomb after setting Clippers record

Although it is Los Angeles Clippers (5-11) have been disappointing so far in the 2025-26 NBA season, fans can enjoy watching the 36-year-old James Harden put the team on your back. He added to his stellar start to the campaign with a history-making performance against the Charlotte Hornets (4-12). The future Hall of Famer scored a game-high 55 points in Saturday’s 131-116 road win, and when the dust settled, he turned out a perfect sound.

“Basketball is life,” Harden said after the game, before subtly smiling and walking away. A clutch day all around for the no. 1.

Harden did his best to keep the focus on the Clippers, beginning his interview by emphasizing winning rather than his own personal excellence. He continues to carry himself as the face of the franchise, commanding a deep level of respect from fans. The 2017-18 MVP endured some turbulence in LA, shooting an ineffective 41.9 percent in his first 165 games with the team (not counting Saturday’s masterful showing), but looks right at home this season.

In fact, if one didn’t know better, one might assume that Harden had taken a few sips from the Fountain of Youth. Entering this Hornets matchup, he was averaging 26.5 points, 8.6 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game while shooting 44.0 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from the 3-point line.

Those numbers will only increase after this 55-point outburst, in which the six-time All-NBA First Team selection went 17-of-26 from the floor and drained a whopping 10 treys. Although the home crowd didn’t get the result they wanted, the fans at the Spectrum Center should be thankful they at least got to witness the record-breaking outing.

James Harden won’t have much time to think about how he surpassed Charles Smith’s nearly 35-year streak of 52 points as the Clippers head to Ohio for a Sunday night showdown with the Cleveland Cavaliers (11-6).
