James Harden pays tribute to Chris Paul

James Harden Chris Paul

History will remember that everything started in the NBA under the colors of the Hornets (New Orleans). Chris Paula little more than 20 years ago, and before the match on the floor of the Hornets (Charlotte), this same Chris Paul announced the end of his career at the end of this financial year 2025-2026.

She will remember that day too, James Harden put on a show with his 55 points a new franchise record for a clipper. After the meeting, “The Beard” took time to reflect on his teammate’s tremendous career. He even mentioned it more than his own feat!

It must be said that James Harden is in a good position to talk about it, he who formed a shock duo with CP3 in Houston from 2017 to 2019, to the extent of shaking the dynasty of the Warriors.

“He brought a lot (to the NBA). Just because he was the president of the players’ union and on the court, he had very good periods for different teams by being a winning playmaker. He’s the second best passer in the history of the league. He had such an impact on the game and won every franchise he was in.”he reminded. “I had the opportunity to be his teammate, and this is the second time in the NBA. There were also the Olympics (2012). In Houston, we had a great opportunity to do something unique. We fell short, but all in all, he had an amazing career. He’s a real leader, he’s our brother and a real playmaker who had a positive impact on the game.”

His best lieutenant in Houston

Despite his tumultuous departure from Texas in 2019, James Harden has only positive memories, recalling how Chris Paul helped him reach a milestone when he was a franchise player with the Rockets that allowed him to win his only MVP of the 2018 season.

“Just by reading the game, communicating, making sure every guy is in the right spot and getting the team moving forward offensively.”, he replied when asked how Chris Paul helped him. “With the way he reads the defense, the way he plays the opponent and the impact on the game. In Houston, he helped me by taking control of the game, getting into the game, creating for others and being aggressive on the shot. We had some really good moments and I’m really proud of everything he accomplished.”

This final exercise within the Clippers, who displayed a magnificent armada on paper, was initially supposed to end this great adventure between the two most notable players of their generation who share the common point of never winning a title. It’s been a rough start, but the season is long, and as he waits to retire, James Harden isn’t too worried about Chris Paul.

“After 21 years… At some point you know it’s coming to an end. I think he’s already started his career. Of course, he’s still playing and traveling with us and everything. But I think in a year he’ll have digested it all. He’s always on the phone, arranging meetings, things like that, so I’m taking notes when it’s my turn.”
