James Worthy’s “best” mic, Brony James, is raising the bar

On Monday night, The Los Angeles Lakers hit the road to battle the Portland Trail Blazers in search of their fourth straight win. Despite playing without Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves (in addition to LeBron James), the Lakers still managed to pull out a 123-115 victory thanks to a combined 57 points from Rui Hachimura and DeAndre Ayton.

Bronnie James we had to see an extended streak in this one, he scored five points and dished out six assists in 19 minutes of play, and after the game the Lakers legend had high praise for a former second-round draft pick.

“I thought this might have been Brony’s best game of his NBA career,” Worthy said, per Lakers Daily on X, formerly Twitter.

James played solid defense all night in Portland, as many suspected would have to be his calling card to hold his own at the NBA level.

It was the second straight game in which James saw rotation minutes for the Lakers, after scoring an impressive dunk in their recent win over the Miami Heat at home.

The Los Angeles Lakers are now 6-2, having completely overcome the opening night mistake against the Golden State Warriors. Reaves and Doncic both played different basketball during the team’s four-game winning streak, but there were still concerns about how much depth the Lakers actually had on this roster.

If Monday night’s performance was any indication, the answer was a lot, as Ayton, Smart and offseason signing Nick Smith Jr. all scored 25 points or more, overpowering a Blazers team that seemed to think it could sleepwalk to victory with Doncic and Reaves out.

It will be interesting to see what the rotations look like for head coach JJ Redick once LeBron James returns to the lineup along with Doncic and Reaves, but for now, Los Angeles seems to have a good thing going at this early point in the season.
