Jared McCain’s monster game against the Nets will make Philly fans cry

The The Philadelphia 76ers were expected to make a cost-cutting move before the trade deadline, as this is how their front office has operated over the past few seasons. They showed an aversion to paying the luxury tax, for better or worse, they made sure not to stray above the tax apron.

However, the 76ers found the tax savings they were looking for in an unexpected place. They traded Jared McCaintheir 2024 first-round pick who showed so much promise before tearing his meniscus, the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 first-round pick (from the Houston Rockets) and three second-round picks.

Now, McCain is taking a step toward the reigning champions. On Friday night, he scored 21 points on 7-12 shooting from the field in the Thunder’s 105-86 win over the Brooklyn Nets. He starred on an OKC team that was missing Shai Gildžius-Alexander and Jaylen Williams, and McCain’s emergence gave OKC more room to rest those key guys — much to the chagrin of 76ers fans.

The 76ers’ decision to trade McCain was a stunning development, as it looked like he would be part of the team’s core for the foreseeable future given how well he played in his rookie season.

Now, McCain is playing well for the Thunder, and 76ers fans are heartbroken that the man they drafted wants to play for another team in just his second campaign.

“Jared McCain playing so well shows how bad Nick Nurse is with this roster,” X user @Ioudovnvith_LNV wrote.

“Sixers dealt Jared McCain for practically nothing. No serious organization,” @TimeoutSPORTS3 he added.

“I was right about Jared McCain. I mean PRESTI WAS trading for him,” @Glenjr1988 further.

76ers president Daryl Morey said they did “high selling” about McCain. Only time will tell if this is indeed the case. However, it’s not looking good for Philly right now.
