Jaren Jackson Jr. and Cam Spencer sink the Clippers

After their five-game road trip ended with just one win, the Clippers returned to their Intuit Dome to challenge the Grizzlies. The Californians started well and made the first deficit of the game, but entering the game Cam Spencer (27 points, 9/13 shooting and 7/10 from distance) allows Memphis to pull back two lengths. The guard starts the night with seven points and a perfect 3/3 shooting. However, at the end of this first act, the guests did not come back in front (27-25).
From the beginning of the second quarter, Jaren Jackson Jr. (31 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) hits a 3-pointer and Memphis takes the lead. The interior is experiencing a heat wave as they score 13 points in just under four minutes to give their team some breathing room (42-34).
After trailing by 13 points, the Clippers caught up a bit before returning to the locker room, but still trailed at halftime (56-48). In the sequel, Los Angeles scored 11-1 in which Chris Dunn pops up with two game-winning shots to regain the lead, but it doesn’t last.
Cam Spencer as the executioner
Memphis quickly corrected the shot, regained the lead and created a new deficit highlighted by the return of Jaren Jackson Jr. who scored two baskets in a row. In the last second of this third quarter, Vince Williams Jr succeeds in the tap and the Grizzlies lead 90 to 74 before the start of the final act.
If twice the Clippers manage to get back under ten points thanks to the winning shots from Bogdan Bogdanovic and from Kobe Browneach time, Memphis answers through Cam Spencer, unsustainable behind the arc. A few minutes later, the latter made two long shots to give Memphis a twenty-point lead (106-86).
Quite logically, the Clippers did not come back, and lost 121-103. It’s the fourth loss in a row before a very complicated upcoming road game against OKC this Thursday.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Jaren Jackson Jr. he put Memphis on the road. While the Grizzlies missed the opening kickoff, Jaren Jackson Jr. took responsibility for putting Memphis back in front. Early in the second act, the interior poured in 13 points to put the Clippers under water and force the Californians to chase the score. At halftime, he had 21 points on 9/11 shooting. He had a good sequence in the third act to push the Clippers a little further and finished the night with 31 points on 13/18 shooting, 4 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Cam Spencer sinks the Clippers. In the last quarter, the Clippers tried to come back, but all their attempts were stopped by Cam Spencer’s long shots. After preventing a Los Angeles comeback, the guard made two game-winning baskets to give his team a twenty-step lead and seal the fate of this matchup.
Tyronn Lue is looking for solutions, but to no avail. To try and breathe new life into his team, Tyronn Lue has tweaked his rotations a bit giving more playing time to youngsters like Jordan Miller etc Kobe Brown who both played for more than twenty minutes, without success. The Clippers coach also ended the third quarter with a “small ball” that proved ineffective as the Grizzlies used their size advantage to extend the deficit even further.
