Jason Kidd drops Cooper Flagg clutch recognition

DALLAS— Cooper Flagg enjoyed a strong rookie season. The Dallas Mavericks‘ The 19-year-old star is currently dealing with an ankle injury and that’s why he won’t play on Saturday against the Utah Jazz, but it hasn’t stopped Jason Kidd from giving flowers to Flag before the competition. The Mavs head coach was asked about the Mavs’ clutch play this season, and Kidd immediately called out Flagg.

“When you have Cooper Flagg, it makes clutch plays a little bit easier,” Kidd he told reporters pregame “Just realizing that we’re practicing these moments in practice … Some of these close games we’ve made it, but we’ve lost some of them. Both scenarios we can learn from.”

Flagg has been impressive in clutch moments so far this season. He’s averaging nearly three points per outing in clutch minutes while shooting about 48 percent from the field. Finding success when the game is on the line is difficult for most players, especially 19-year-old rookies. For Flagg, however, the big moments were no problem.

The Mavs will miss Flagg’s presence on Saturday. They’ll look to get the job done against the Jazz without him. Dallas defeated Utah 144-122 on Thursday night. Getting a second straight win against them would provide some nice momentum for a Mavs team that has endured the 2025-26 campaign.

Tip-off for the Jazz vs. Mavericks is set for Saturday at 5:00 PM EST at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
