Jason Kidd releases ‘excellent’ injury notice on Anthony Davis

DALLAS— Anthony Davis is again Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans. AD is listed as out with illness, Jason Kidd he told reporters. Davis is still recovering from a calf strainbut Kidd said recovery is going “excellent”, an encouraging sign to say the least.

“Davis is out with an illness,” Kidd told reporters before Friday night’s game. “And also, he’s on calf rehab so everything is great there.”

AD remains without a specific time frame for return after injury. He is expected to be re-evaluated soon, leading to further updates on his potential return. For now, the Mavs will try to win without AD.

on Thursday, The Mavs have announced that guard Dante Exum will need knee surgery and will miss the entire season as a result. He was recovering from knee surgery during the offseason, but complications resulted in him needing another operation. Kidd reflected on Ekum’s difficult news on Friday as well.

“Next man up … Since the 2024 finals, that’s the last time we’ve been healthy,” Kidd said. “That campaign started shortly after that. So the next man up, nothing changes. But we’re going to miss Ekum. Understanding what he brought to the team on and off the floor is something we’re going to miss.”

“We just hope for a speedy recovery.”

The Mavericks are 13th in the Western Conference with a 4-12 overall record. The Pelicans, however, are last in the conference at 2-13. Both teams have struggled, but Friday’s game is important as both teams hope to turn their seasons around.
