Jason Kidd reveals Kevin Durant’s secret behind greatness

DALLAS — Many players have become All-Stars over the years in the NBA. Some of those players have gone on to enjoy strong careers — though they’re often not in the Hall of Fame. Then there are a few players who understand the connection behind greatness and longevity, something Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant certainly achieved.
Ahead of the Rockets’ game Saturday night vs Dallas Mavericks, Durant’s impressive legacy was the topic of conversation. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd believes KD’s love of the game is the driving force behind his continued greatness.
“He loves to play basketball,” Kidd said of Durant. “You start with love and wanting to be great, and KD is the blueprint for that. … He knows how to score, he can put it on the floor, he can shoot over you. Just realizing he’s perfected his craft.”
“He came into this league as a scorer and every year he gets better.”
Durant recently reached 31,000 career points. To put it mildly, he enjoyed a legendary career.
Kevin Durant is enjoying another big season
KD, at age 37, has played in 18 games and is averaging 35.6 minutes per outing. Kidd also believes Durant’s love of the game plays a key role in his continued availability and big minutes.
“He loves the game … I just understand that he loves to play basketball,” Kidd said. “He loves the gym, he loves competition, he loves to score goals, he loves to win, he loves everything basketball brings and he loves to work. You can see that, when he’s available, the minutes he’s playing at his age.”
“He’s playing the game at a high level, so it’s good to see.”
