Jason Kidd shares Khris Middleton’s plan after Anthony Davis trade

Before the trade deadline, The Dallas Mavericks finally cut their losses and sent oft-injured star Anthony Davis, the main man they got in the Luka Doncic trade, to the Washington Wizards in exchange for several first-round picks, as well as several veterans, headlined by the former NBA champion Chris Middleton.

Middleton is no longer the All-Star caliber player he once was, but he can still provide veteran leadership as well as some quality minutes every night as a secondary shot creator/perimeter playmaker. You should they provide some value for the Mavericksand will remain in Dallas even though some thought he might be bought out given how much more useful he could be to a struggling team.

On Tuesday evening, Middleton will make his debut for the Mavericks, although he will come off the bench. But head coach Jason Kidd said there’s a chance he can get some starts for Dallas soon.

“At some point, there could be a point where he starts. We want to look at him starting with Cooper and Tyus, so different combinations. It could happen as early as Thursday or we could wait until the break, but we want to play him,” Kidd said, per Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News.

With Kidd saying the Mavericks plan to start Middleton along with Cooper Flagg and fellow trade deadline pick Tyus Jones, one of PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford and Max Christie will have to come off the bench instead.

It’s not entirely clear why the Mavs would do this, but one would think that one of Christie or Washington would be benched since Gafford is the team’s nominal starting center. Whoever makes the sacrifice will get the short end of the stick.
