Jason Kidd slams the media with F-bombs full of Cooper Flagg

When is it Dallas Mavericks decided to start Cooper Flagg at the peak at the beginning of the season, the decision was heavily criticized by everyone. Flagg hadn’t really played point guard before the league, and handing the reins of the offense to a rookie with no experience at the position seemed unreasonable. And at first it really seemed like it was going to fail.

Now, however, the experiment has paid off. The Mavericks have somewhat rebounded from their dismal start and are now trying to make their way into the Play-In tournament. Along the way, Flagg developed into a solid ball handler who could lead the offense. It was a crazy gamble that paid off.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was asked about the move. Head coach fiercely defended his decision and invited the media to “criticize” his decisions.

“Criticism? That’s your opinion,” Kidd said, according to Grant Afsett. “You guys write that bulls—. That’s not — I’ve done this. I’ve played this game. I’ve played it. I know what the hell— I do. I don’t give a f— what you write because you’ve never played the game. I build players, so I know what the hell— I do. So if I understand what the hell— I do. So if I understand, criticism makes me better, only if I work I wouldn’t poke holes in what I’ve done.”

Originally entering the league as a power forward, Kidd made the bold decision to install Flagg as the team’s point guard early in the year. It was a dangerous decision: the Mavericks’ young rookie had no representation at the position, and playing point guard in the NBA is incredibly difficult.

However, when we look back at Kidd’s career, it’s easy to see why he made this decision. During his time as coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Kidd did the same thing for Giannis Antetokounmpo. The move to give him more playmaking responsibilities allowed the Greek prodigy to develop into a complete player. Perhaps this was the vision the Kid had for Flagg, and it turned out to be a good decision. Over the past two months, Flagg has averaged about 22 points and 4.6 assists per game.
