Jason Kidd’s ‘unfortunate’ confession about Anthony Davis’ tenure in Dallas
Ahead of the trade deadline, The Dallas Mavericks cut their losses and sent Anthony Davis away To the Washington Wizards for a package that included Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, two first-round picks (from Oklahoma City and Golden State) and three second-round picks. This was such an admission of defeat that the Mavs really messed around with Luka Doncic as they sent away the main man they got in exchange for Doncic and it felt like they got a (relative) bag of chips in return.
The Mavericks, of course, hoped Davis would be the final piece of their championship puzzle. Instead, they went back to the drawing board, choosing to pivot to youth and build around Cooper Flagg. They backed themselves into this corner and have to thank their lucky stars that they won the lottery last year and got Flag to compensate for the loss of Doncic.
There is no use crying over spilled milk. But at the end of the day, the Mavericks he just didn’t get it a healthy version of an entire team built around Davis’ defense, which is a lot for a head coach to handle Jason Kiddit’s regret.
“It was unfortunate, his health. We never got to see it all together. Not just AD, but Kyrie and the Cup. Unfortunately, we didn’t have that opportunity. But AD is an amazing basketball player and a great human being. We wish him the best in DC,” Kidd said, per Christian Clark of The Athletic.
The Mavericks rule out the unfortunate vision of Nick Harrison

If someone were to squint, they can certainly see it Nico Harrison may have been on to something in his decision to trade Doncic for a Davis-centric package. The Mavericks needed defense, and they had plenty of shots when Kyrie Irving was healthy.
But the basketball gods collected rent from the Mavericks pretty quickly. Irving tore his ACL, Davis failed to find a consistent clean bill of health, and the Mavs suffered as a result. Nonetheless, they do not fall prey to the sunk cost fallacy, which allows them to wash the slate clean.
