Jaylen Brown calls out Knicks fans “intolerable” after playoff loss
The The Boston Celtics are less less than a week away from the start of the 2025-26 NBA season at home against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics will enter this season without injured star Jayson Tatumwho tore his Achilles during last year’s playoff series against the New York Knicks.
Lost in the reaction to Tatum’s injury was the fact that the Celtics were most likely on track to lose that series to the Knicks anyway, having blown not one, but two 20-point leads in the first two games at home.
Most recently, the Celtics’ 2024 Finals MVP Jailen Brown appeared on Netflix’s “Starting Five” and spoke at the consequences of that loss.
“It’s part of the game. You have to take the ups and the downs. Last year we were a championship team. We won the championship. Duckboats, champagne. This year we have to listen to the insufferable Knicks fans. I don’t know how we lost overall, but we lost,” Brown said, per X, a former CelticsGlobe tweeter.
An inexplicable defeat for the Celtics

Going into the series against the Knicks, most pundits figured the Celtics would send their friends from New York home in no more than five games. Instead, Boston forgot how to shoot the basketball in Games 1 and 2, melting down in crunch time in both contests, and went on to blow another 14-point lead in Game 4, which they were well on their way to losing before Tatum’s injury.
This offseason, the Celtics cut their losses and traded for both Jr. Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in an attempt to move under the second apron, paving the way for both Brown and Derrick White to have careers in 2025-26, with Tatum out.
Considering the current state of the East, it’s not out of the question that the Celtics could still compete for a top-six seed in the conference if things go their way, and Tatum hasn’t completely closed the door on a potential return at some point this year.
Either way, the Celtics will open their 2025-26 regular season with a home game against the 76ers on October 22nd.
