Jaylen Brown officially shut out against the Wizards

The Boston Celtics come into their game against the Washington Wizards looking to extend their current two-game winning streak, but they will come up just short. Jailen Brown appeared on the Celtics injury report and he was officially off due to an illness other than COVID-19, according to NBA insider Mark Stein.

Jaylen Brown was originally listed as questionable on the Celtics’ injury report for their game against the Wizards, but was ultimately downgraded the morning before the game. This will be the first game Brown has missed this season. Brown appeared on the injury report before, but his previous illnesses did not prevent him from dressing.

During a season in which the Celtics took a step back in the Eastern Conference due to Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury and an offseason roster shakeup, Brown has stepped up and is putting up career numbers.

So far, he has appeared in 21 games, with just over 33 minutes per game. He averaged a season-high 29.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.0 steals, shooting 49.9 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from the 3-point line and 77.2 percent from the free throw line.

Entering the Wizards game, the Celtics are 12-9 and currently sit in sixth place in the East. They are just half a game behind the fifth-place Orlando Magic and a game and a half behind the No. 4 Miami Heat.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Brown is now in his 10th season in the league, all with the Celtics. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP, Brown was selected for his fourth All-Star appearance, and third in a row, last season.
