Jaylen Brown reveals what LeBron James told him at the All-Star Game

The Boston Celtics recently took care of business against Los Angeles Lakers on the road, beating them 111-89. Jailen Brown led the way with 32 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and continues to lead the Celtics in a season where many thought they wouldn’t be as good. For Brown, it shows all the hard work he’s put in, and confirms something that LeBron James he told him when he was a rookie.

After the game, Brown shared the story what James told him in his first career start.

“But when I first came into the league, my first start was against the Cleveland Cavaliers,” Brown said. “After the game, he came up to me and said in my ear, ‘You’re going to be an All-Star one day. You’re going to be a great player.’ And he also said, ‘You’re playing for a great coach—just keep your head up and keep doing what you’re doing.’

“That was my first NBA start — 2017, I think, or 2016. He told me that, and we talked about it at the All-Star Game. He laughed like, ‘Sure — I’m not surprised by anything you’re doing right now.’ He said: just keep proving people wrong, keep doing what you have to do, keep leading your team and people will notice.

Fast forward to now, and Brown is a multiple All-Star and in the MVP conversation this season. He also has a lot more to achieve, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him steadily rise in his career.

Brown also noted that he wouldn’t say everything he and James talked about, and some suspect it could be about what he said of Brony James during Summer League last season. James spoke about his and Brown’s relationship in his presser.

“Our relationship was pretty respectful. Besides what he said about Brona in Summer League. But other than that, we were fine,” James said with a smile.
