Jaylen Duren wants “north” of $30 million per year

The The Detroit Pistons will enter the new campaign with optimism after last season’s run to the NBA playoffs, and center Jalen Duren believes he is a key part of the team’s effort, even if his long-term contract situation hasn’t been worked out yet.

According to Jake Fisher of The Stein Line newsletter, Duren, who will likely become a restricted free agent at the end of the upcoming season, is far from each other from the Pistons brass on a potential overtime.

“Duren, meanwhile, has established himself as a regular in Detroit’s lineup, but sources say talks between the Pistons’ starting center and front office Trajan Langdon have been tepid to date,” Fisher wrote. Duren’s front office sought well north of last fall’s $30 million-a-year benchmark, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation, believing there will be significant interest in restricted free agency next July for the proven big man if the 21-year-old succeeds on the summer market. Would Detroit prefer to opt out next summer?

In 78 games last season, Duren averaged 11.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 26.1 minutes while shooting about 69 percent from the field. He was the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and was a rookie selection after the 2022-2023 season.

The Pistons have until Monday at 6 p.m. ET to agree terms with Duren and the 23-year-old guard Jaden Iveywho are both players on entry-level contracts.

Detroit will begin its regular season on October 22nd in Chicago when they play the Bulls.
