Jayson Tatum is struggling with whether he should return this season

Jayson Tatum looks at his own Boston Celtics play very well now. It made him want to come back and play this season; however, it will be a tough road back, having not played since April.

Tatum joined The Pivot Podcast and talked about many things, including his injury, Kobe Bryant and the Olympics. He struggles with whether he should even return this season, but it’s been something he thinks about every day.

“It’s something I think about every day,” Tatum said. “More about the team. If or when I come back this season, it’s like they’d go 50 or so games without me. So they have an identity this year or things they felt helped them, and it’s been successful, right? Third team in the East so far.”

“So there’s a thought in my head about how does that work or what does that look like? You know, when I’ve integrated myself from the injury and 50, 60 games into the season, you know, obviously there could be some challenges, and the thought is like, heck, should I come back? Or wait is something I’ve been thinking about honestly or almost every day for the last two weeks.”

The Celtics have a great identity right now. Jaylen Brown is playing like the MVP this season, averaging just under 30 points per game. Joe Mazulla has his team playing fast, and the defensive identity is still there despite the absence of Tatum, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.

The Celtics could be involved in some trades to improve the roster before the NBA trade deadline. Although no one would be better than Tatum to return to the court. The playoffs are still two months away. If Tatum is going to come back, he doesn’t have much time to figure it out. He has to make a decision in the near future.

Tatum admitted it retirement appeared as an option initially, immediately after the injury.
