Jayson Tatum’s new workout video has fans talking about a potential comeback

The The Boston Celtics were one of the surprising stories of the first half of the NBA season, currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference despite playing without an injured star Jayson Tatum. In Tatum’s absence, Jaylen Brown took over his game to a borderline MVP level, and Boston also got elite supporting cast from players like Derrick White and Payton Pritchard.

Tatum tore his Achilles last May in the Celtics’ shocking playoff collapse against the New York Knicks, and some fans have speculated that the star could try to return to the court as early as this season.

On Monday, Adam Himselsbach of the Boston Globe took to X, formerly Twitter, with some footage of Tatum working out in Detroit before Boston’s game against the Pistons, and certainly looked encouraging.

Needless to say, fans in the comments section were blown away by what they saw.

“The first game after the break is back,” one fan speculated.

“Imagine not having to rush your best player back because you’re currently sitting in the second seed in the Conference,” wrote another.

The Celtics will take a look at the conference’s top seed Detroit Pistons on Monday night, which should be a good test. Boston enters Saturday night with a huge road trip to the Atlanta Hawks, a game in which Jaylen Brown scored 41 points through three quarters and Sam Houser had 30 points on 10-21 shooting from the three-point line.

If Tatum is somehow able to return at some point this season, it’s entirely possible that the Celtics could be viewed as the favorites coming out of the East. They’re already on the short list of teams with a legitimate shot at making the NBA Finals this year even without him in the lineup.

The Celtics vs. Pistons tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET.
