JB Bickerstaff claims the All-Star Game coaching spot
The Detroit Pistons head coach, JB Bickerstaffhe officially earned one from the NBA the most prestigious mid-season awardssecuring the head coaching role in 2026 NBA All-Star Game after Detroit’s jump to first place in the Eastern Conference standings.
The league confirmed news on social media, and the update clarified both the format change and Bickerstaff’s role in the reimagined All-Star showcase.
“Detroit Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff has earned the head coaching spot for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, scheduled for Sunday, February 15 at 5:00 PM ET on NBA on NBC. Bickerstaff will coach one of three teams in the new USA vs. World format,” the NBA, formerly Twitter, announced on Twitter.

Bickerstaff secured the honor as the Pistons are currently 32-11, a dramatic turnaround from the franchise’s struggles prior to Bickerstaff’s arrival. This marks the first All-Star coaching selection of Bickerstaff’s career and makes him the first Pistons coach to win the title courtesy of Flip Saunders in 2006.
And, it’s safe to say that his success was marked by the appearance of Cade Cunninghamwho is averaging 25.3 points and a league-leading 9.7 assists per game while earning his first All-Star start.
Detroit’s momentum was further emphasized in the home team’s 104-103 win over the Boston Celtics. a game that helped lock you down Bickerstaff’s All-Star credentials. Cunningham struggled through a rough shooting night, but contributed 14 assists and two blocks Tobias Harris led the way with 25 points.
On the other hand, in the Western Conference, Oklahoma City owns the top seed, but there is a catch, as Thunder head coach Mark Daigno became ineligible because of the person who coached the 2025 All-Star game. As a result, the honor goes to the West second seed, San Antonio Spursand Mitch Johnson was appointed to represent that conference.
With the All-Star Game set for Feb. 15 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, Bickerstaff’s accolade reflects not only Detroit’s rise this season, but a foundation that could position the Pistons as a long-term Eastern Conference contender.
