Jeff Neal vs. Uroš Medic is set for UFC Houston after the Kevin Holland bout fell through

The UFC light heavyweight division is about to bring some February sparkle as Jeff Neal takes on rising knockout artist Uroš Medici at FFeb. 21 at UFC Houston’s Toyota Center. But the road to this explosive matchup took an unexpected detour that left one veteran fighter fuming.

Initially, the promotion had plans to bring back a regional rivalry nearly a decade in the making. Neal was supposed to rematch Kevin Holland at UFC Houstona bout that would rematch their meeting in January 2017 when both fighters were climbing the ranks in Texas. Holland publicly agreed to the match and even announced the fight on social media. However, Neal officially refused the match in early January, leaving the Netherlands without an opponent and visibly frustrated.

When news broke that the UFC had instead decided to switch Neal against Medic, Holland didn’t hold back his disappointment. Taking to social media, the ever-vocal welterweight posted his reaction with a sharp jab: “How they reward a bum.” The comment reflected Holland’s frustration at being passed over while Neal secured a spot on the Houston card against another opponent.

For Neal (16-7), the fight with Medic is an opportunity to build momentum after a challenging stretch. The 35-year-old Texan has won just once in his last four outings, with that lone victory coming against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 308 in October 2024. After a brutal knockout loss to rising star Carlos Prates at UFC 319, “Hands of Home” needs to make a statement.

Medic (12-3) enters as one of the most dangerous finishers in the division. The Serbian striker has scored back-to-back first-round knockouts, most recently knocking out veteran Muslim Salihov in just 63 seconds at UFC Vegas 111 in November. With eight career knockout wins and seven first-round finishes to his name, “The Doctor” embodies a kill-or-be-killed mentality. Every one of his UFC fights ended in a stoppage.

This clash of styles promises fireworks. Both possess legitimate one-hit power, and neither is known for playing it safe. For Houston fans, this matchup delivers exactly what the light heavyweight division is all about — two heavy hitters ready to trade skins until one hits the canvas.
