Jeff Passan highlights the Braves as a threat to steal Brandon Woodruff from the Brewers

The The Atlanta Braves had busy offseason so far, first seeing manager Brian Snicker announce his retirement and accept a role in the organization’s front office, and not long after that, hiring Walt Weiss to be their new manager. The Braves’ decision to limit their number of prospects to an in-house group drew outrage from fans as the team looks to rebound from its first season missing the playoffs since 2017.

In the meantime, the team certainly needs to make some more changes to what was a flawed roster over the course of last season, and recently ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote about one target Braves could try to go after this offseason: Right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff by the Milwaukee Brewers.

“Woodruff’s return from major shoulder surgery that sidelined him for the 2024 season and more than half of 2025 couldn’t have gone much better. Even with a 3 mph deficit in his fastball, he added a cutter and remained an elite strikeout pitcher. If he doesn’t stay with Milwaukee, for whom Woodrow would be in great shape, would be the only great team. Atlanta,” Passan wrote.

Indeed, the Braves could use all the help they can get in the pitching department, especially after their pitching staff was once again riddled with injuries last season. While the team may be wary of signing someone coming off major shoulder surgery not too long ago, as Passan mentioned, Atlanta seems willing to take the risk if it means the team might be able to re-enter the playoff mix.

Either way, the Braves’ 2025 regular season is set to begin in late March. They will have a chance to adjust to spring training starting in February.
