Jeremy Sochan allowed to request a trade

Once viewed as an integral part San Antonio Spurs‘ rotation, Jeremy Sochan has recently faded into the background. With roster changes, the former first-round lottery pick saw his minutes decrease this season. That has led to questions about whether the Polish striker will remain with the team moving forward.

Well, Spurs are already moving to give Socan the chance he deserves. The latest report from Marc Stein says San Antonio has gave the forward permission to request a trade before the deadline.

“League sources say Jeremy Sochan and his team have received permission from the Spurs to scout the landscape for a potential new home via trade,” Stein reported.

Socan, the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, was an integral part of the Spurs rotation last season. He played in 54 games last season and logged 25.3 minutes per game. Socan scored 11.4 points and grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game. He was one of the better defenders in the team and his extraordinary finishing was a great complement to Victor Vembanyama.

This season, however, Socan fell out of the rotation. Injuries have certainly affected the forward, but even then, Socan has featured in just 27 of Spurs’ 46 games this season. He played just 13.1 minutes off the bench, the lowest mark of his career so far. that along with the Spurs declining his team option before the seasonseems to indicate that his exit is imminent.

Despite losing his rotation spot, there is still a market for Socan’s talents. Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reports that at least one team, The Knicks are interested in the Spurs forward. However, in the same report, Siegel also notes that there is reluctance within the organization to trade Sochan.

“In talks with the Spurs, the Knicks have inquired about 2022 ninth overall pick Jeremy Sochan, sources said. Sochan is in the final year of his rookie contract and will be a restricted free agent in the summer. His defensive versatility at any forward position and ability to slow down the offense would fit New York’s style of play.”
