Jermaine Johnson II asks for prayers for Chris Boyd after shooting

The The New York Jets fell to 2-8 in Week 11but that’s the least of their worries. After backup defensive back Chris Boyd was the victim of a shooting, star defensive end Jermaine Johnson II led a group of players asking fans to pray for his teammate.
Boyd was shot on the streets of Manhattan early Sunday morning, and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. As the entire team anxiously awaited an update on his status, Johnson sent a tweet hoping for the best for his teammate.
“Please send prayers to my brother and teammate Chris Boyd and his family!” Johnson tweeted. “Lord, please place your healing hand over Chris and lead him back to health and safety. Lord, please get him through this safely. In your name, Amen.”
Since it is news broke of Boyd’s shootingno additional updates appeared. The veteran cornerback is in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital, fighting for his life after being shot in the stomach. He was reportedly shot outside the restaurant after an argument turned violent.
Although Boyd didn’t play a single snap in 2025, news of his firing rallied the entire Jets community behind him. The 29-year-old signed a one-year deal with the team in the offseason and has been on injured reserve since August.
The report of Boyd’s firing further dims the lights in the Jets family. New York received the unfortunate news of the sudden death of former center Nick Mangold just a few weeks earlier on October 25th. Mangold suffered from kidney disease for years, which eventually led to his unfortunate death.
