Jerras Walker, one of the few rays of sunshine for the Pacers this season
Coming off the third-worst season in their history, the Pacers must look for reasons to be happy to survive this disastrous exercise. The season of Pascal Siakamcrowned by the All-Star game, is one. But the Cameroonian was not in uniform, for personal reasons, against the Wizards. Since then, Rick Carlisle has been able to turn around Capricorn Walker.
The latter has gained time and even a few starts in recent weeks. And in this loss to Washington, with the absence of Pascal Siakam and TJ McConnell, plus Aaron Nesmith and Andrew Nembhard not having more than 15 and 21 minutes to express themselves, the interior took advantage of the opportunity to achieve one of the best matches.
He actually collected 19 points (albeit on 5/15 shooting), 14 rebounds and 7 assists, breaking his career high for rebounds and tying that for assists. “His progress is one of the wins this season”, he rejoices Rick Carlisle. “He found himself in situations where he becomes one of our leaders, where he has to play, defend, take rebounds, score goals.”
Progress as expected even hopedbecause so far, after two seasons, he has mostly disappointed. Let’s remind, Jarace Walker was drafted eighth in 2023. “He came in as the eighth pick, he’s had his ups and downs and now he’s really starting to find his feet. That’s what counts.”continues his coach. “This is the type of progression we are looking for in young players.
In the last ten games he played, the interior averaged 17.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 28 minutes.
“He’s good in these games. He has a scorer, a shooter mentality. He misses shots, but it doesn’t bother him and that’s how he should be. You have to have a short memory for failures and a long memory for successes. He’s obviously one of those players.”concludes the technician from Indiana.
