Jets linked with Tua Tagovailo as Dolphins decide what to do with him

The Miami Dolphins they are making big changes this offseason. Miami has already parted ways with Tyreek Hill and a host of other veteran players in February. Now the Dolphins face a big decision at quarterback with a potential breakup with KB Tua Tagovailoa seems likely. If Miami moves on, it looks like Tua could have several suitors waiting for him.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo gave an update on the situation tagovailoa area with free agency in less than a week. Garafolo noted that the Jets could be one of the potential landing spots if the Dolphins ultimately decide to cut Tu.

“Then there’s Tua Tagovailoa. Kind of like Kyler Murray in that if he cuts him, he’ll be available for potentially a veteran minimum to come in and be a starting-caliber quarterback,” Garafolo said Wednesday on Good Morning Football. “Teams are working on Tua. My understanding is that the Jets (are) among them, making some calls to get a full feel of who Tua is as a person. The Jets have multiple options when it comes to the quarterback situation and Tua, I believe, is among them.”

The writing is on the wall that Tua is no longer a Miami guy. But the question is what will the Dolphins do with him.

One option is to simply cut it. If the Dolphins cut Tu before June 1, it would give him a huge upside $99.2 million cap hit 2026. That’s a huge cap space for a player to be off the roster.

The financials are a little kinder if Miami cuts Tagovailoa with the post-June 1 tag. But even that would still cost Miami. The The Dolphins would rather trade Tagovailobut that seems unrealistic given his large contract.

It makes sense that New York could be interested in Tagovailoa, especially on a veteran minimum contract.

Ideally, the Dolphins will figure out what to do with Tu before the start of the new league year next week.
