Jimmy Butler calls impetuous teammate a ‘headache’

The Golden State Warriors have won three of their last four games, including a 119-97 loss against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, and a big reason for their small streak is the De’Anthony Melton. Melton returned to the Warriors lineup last month after being ruled out to start the season, so was his teammate Jimmy Butler is but labeling it ‘headache’, in a fun way.

“It gives me a headache, because him and Buddy (Hild), they’re in cahoots. They’re like friends and stuff, so he’s automatically on my bad side because he likes Buddy,” Butler joked.

“But the one thing I’ll say about Melton is he’s making shots right now, he’s very aggressive,” Butler said more seriously. “We like that he guards at a high level and gives us another option to lean on. We want him to stay that way and talk to Buddy less.”

While Butler couldn’t help but take one last playful jab at Hield and Melton’s friendship, he’s right that Melton gave the Warriors a big boost during periods when they need additional help.

The Warriors have been inconsistent this season, currently sitting at 22-19 and eighth in the Western Conference standings. But during a recent period when they went 3-1, Melton saw an increase in their scoring. He scored in double figures in all four of those games, including two 20+ point games. His lowest point total in that stretch was 10 points, and perhaps not coincidentally, that was the one game the Warriors lost.

Since returning from injury, he has appeared in 16 games with just over 20 minutes per game. He is averaging 10.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals on 42.3 percent shooting from the field, 31 percent from the 3-point line and 79.4 percent from the free throw line.
