Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Cumminga will play against the Lakers

Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Cumminga have been dealing with ankle injuries for the past week, leading to Golden State WarriorsTuesday night’s season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. As a result, both attackers landed on team injury report.
The good news is that Butler and Cumminga were dealing with “minor ankle inflammation” and will available to play on Tuesday to open the season in Los Angeles, a team source told ClutchPoints.
Both players practiced ahead of the season opener in Los Angeles and did not experience any slumps.
Butler also dealt with joint problems again during the preseason sprained his ankle during preseason trainingcausing him to miss Golden State’s final two preseason games.
The injury was never a concern for the Warriors, as they remained confident the All-Star forward would be ready for the first game of the regular season and continued to play down the severity of his sprained ankle. As a result of the slight swelling, the Dubs are acting cautiously to finish the preseason, sources said.
Kuminga missed the Warriors’ final preseason game on Friday after spraining his ankle in the team’s previous game on Tuesday.
The young striker was sent off after playing just 18 minutes after arguing a non-call while driving to the rim against the Portland Trail Blazers. When he tried to finish the layup after clear leg contact, Kuminga approached the referee and was angry.
For the first time in Kuming’s career, he was ejected from the game and later fined $35,000 by the NBA due to “inappropriate contact with a game official and further harassment”.
After the game, Kuminga said his ankle was cut from behind, resulting in minor swelling. This is the same ankle that Kuminga injured during the 2024-25 season and missed more than two months as a result.
Both Butler and Cumminga are ready to play in Los Angeles, and should not face any limitations other than an unforeseen setback in pregame warmups. Ankle injuries can be serious and flare up at any time, but these initial injuries are said to be minor, and both players are ready to start the Warriors’ season.
However, Dabs will be without five-year-old winger Moses Moody as he is currently dealing with a calf injury that will keep him out for some time from the start of the new season. There is still no clear timetable for his eventual return to court.
The Warriors will begin the 2025-26 NBA season on Tuesday night in Los Angeles against Luka Doncic and the Lakers.
