Jimmy Butler suffered a nasty leg injury against the Heat

On Monday night during MLK Day, Golden State Warriors hosted the Miami Heat in a meeting of familiar faces after the two teams completed a blockbuster trade at the deadline last year. Jimmy Butler was ready to face his old team once again, with The Warriors are bringing back a friendly face to Andrew Wigginsand he looked motivated — scoring 17 points in just 21 minutes in a close game between the two sides.

However, Butler’s night looked to be over after he suffered a nasty leg injury that left him writhing on the floor for a good minute or two. In the third quarter, the Warriors forward went down hard and it looked like yes he was hyperextending the knee after trying to catch a floated pass toward the paint from Brandin Podziemski.

Butler clutched his right knee and grimaced as he writhed in pain on the hardwood. This is not a good development at all for a A Warriors team that desperately needs the 36-year-old to be healthy if they were to be a major threat in the Western Conference.

Considering how bad the injury looks at first glance, Butler will not return for tonight’s contest against the Heat, according to the Warriors. Further testing will be done on the veteran forward to determine the true severity of the injury he suffered.

Warriors to act more urgently in the market after Jimmy Butler’s injury?

A strained knee could mean a lot of things — none of them good for Butler and the Warriors. There is no diagnosis yet as to what exactly the injury Butler suffered, but at first glance it looks like that is exactly what he suffered. That injury is no joke and will take a long time to recover.

That could then mean the Warriors will act more urgently on the trade market, seeking additional help from Jonathan Cumminga to try and cover Butler’s potential absence.
