Jimmy Butler is back with the Miami Heat it’s like he never left, even though they suffered a 20-point loss to the Denver Nuggets in his return from a seven-game suspension. With no immediate trade to appease Butler’s demands, it looks like the two sides will be stuck side by side for the foreseeable future, barring major changes on the trade front.

At this point, all anyone could do is speculate. There is a lot of risk involved in trading for Butler; he’s already 35 and soon to be ready for a new contract, and he’s asking the world in contract negotiations – demands that may be unsustainable for any of his potential trade suitors. And while he’s lost faith in the Heat organization, the team will still need him if it hopes to make a deep playoff run against Eastern giants like the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Regardless, Butler still has to put his words into action. He has done some sandbagging in the past, most notably during his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves, only to be forced off the team. The Heat and the rest of the NBA will be watching closely to see if he is a man of his word or not.

Jimmy Butler will long be a favorite among Heat fans for the way he did the heavy lifting for the team in the 2020 and 2023 NBA Finals runs. Butler’s decision to start burning his bridges with a franchise that is much more heartbreaking.

The best way the Heat can repair their relationship with Butler is to possibly get him the reinforcements he’s been looking for. Miami’s biggest miss is Damian Lillard in 2023, though at this point, with the Heat in salary cap hell, it’s not entirely clear what they can do to improve the roster around him.
