Jimmy Butler’s agent gives championship guarantee despite ACL injury

on monday, Golden State Warriors won 135-112 over the Miami Heat, but the big story of the game was Jimmy Butler leaves the floor due to an injury to his former team. It was later revealed that the injury was a devastating torn ACL that will keep Butler out for the rest of the season and raises a number of questions on Golden State’s strategy moving forward.
While many think the Warriors’ championship window may now be officially closed following this news, Butler’s agent Bernie Lee recently made a statement suggesting the opposite sentiment.
“Obviously it’s a big blow on every level for Jimmy and the whole group, but I firmly believe this is part of the journey,” Lee told ESPN, via Anthony Slater on X, formerly Twitter. “We can’t just expect to get good things out of it. I’ve known for over 10 years that Jimmy will win a championship before he’s done. My belief in that is unwavering.”
Lee also added that “we’re going to make some functional decisions here in the next couple of days, and then we’re moving on to the next… “If you know anything about Jimmy, you know exactly how he’s going to attack this challenge. Simply put, he’s got this.”
It’s unclear what those “functional decisions” might entail, and whether Lee envisions his championship promise for Butler happening in the Bay Area, or with a new team.
Meanwhile, the Warriors and general manager Mike Dunleavy will have some serious thinking ahead of the upcoming trade deadline, which is set for next month.
The Warriors next take the court on Tuesday night against the Toronto Raptors.
