JJ Redick doesn’t want to call out players after Rockets disaster

recently, Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Reddick drew some criticism for imploding his team after their Christmas loss to the Houston Rockets, seemingly without taking much personal responsibility for the failure. Questions about the LakersThe lack of athleticism and good defenders reared their ugly heads against a Rockets team stocked with both, bringing things to a boiling point at this early point in the season.

After the Lakers’ practice on Saturday, Redick hit it off a different tonetalking about how the team is aware that they are not playing to their standards.

“I think they are, and I think the group is aware,” Redick said, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin . “The group feels it. They’re together on the field. They’re together in the huddle. … There wasn’t anything that needed to be addressed that wasn’t addressed.”

Redick also added a little more responsibility than he showed after the Rockets game.

“Me, I’m always going to look in the mirror first,” Redick said. “And I think it’s easy as a player, as a coach, to say, ‘It’s this guy’s fault,’ or, ‘We’re not doing this because X, I, and Z.'”

The Lakers recently received the unfortunate news that Austin Reaves will be sidelined for at least a month with an injury, which comes in the midst of what has been a breakout campaign for the guard.

During Saturday’s media availability, Redick also outlined three things he wants to see Los Angeles improve on moving forward.

“Defensive clarity, role clarity and offensive organization,” Redick pointed out.

Overall, the Lakers are still in a solid position ahead of the West, currently sitting at 19-10 on the season. However, their lack of two-way players has started to become too much of a problem to ignore, leading some to wonder if Rob Pelinka might have to enter the lab before the trade deadline.

The Lakers next take the court on Sunday night against the Sacramento Kings.
