JJ Redick drops the LeBron James G League bombshell

The world continues to wait to officially begin the 23rd year in the NBA of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The four-time NBA MVP has yet to make his debut in the 2025-26 NBA seasonas he is still working his way back from sciatica, which he developed early in training camp in Los Angeles.

However, James seems to be getting closer to playing his first game this season, and Los Angeles head coach JJ Redick said Monday that the future Hall of Famer is “literally working out with South Bay today,” referring to the Lakers’ G League affiliate the South Bay Lakers, per The Associated Press (h/t ESPN ).

The Lakers are currently in the middle of a five-game road trip with a rematch on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets. Los Angeles didn’t seem to miss LeBron James much in that contest. Luka Doncic and company humbled the Hornets in a 121-111 victory to improve to 8-3 through 11 games. And with the win, the Lakers remained perfect in back-to-back games this season, bouncing back from last week’s 122-102 loss to the Atlanta Hawks and starting their road trip with a bang.

There may be a chance for James to return to action when the Lakers complete their road trip and return to La La Land for a Nov. 18 matchup at Cripto.com Arena against the Utah Jazz.

But for now, the Lakers will focus mostly on the tough challenge ahead as they face the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder next Wednesday. The New Orleans Pelicans host the Lakers in the Big Easy on Sunday before Los Angeles closes out Monday in Cream City against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.

For now, the Lakers, who are ninth in the league until Monday with an offensive rating of 117.2seems to be going well with Doncic leading the offense and Austin Reaves, Deandre Ayton and Rui Hachimura providing ample support. Doncic, who scored 38 points in the win over Charlotte, leads the Lakers with 37.1 points per game while shooting 49.1 percent from the field.
