JJ Redick gives update on Luka Doncic’s injury ahead of Warriors matchup

While the fans will see Luke Kennard makes his debut for the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors, one player viewers won’t see is the star Luka Dončićas his further hamstring injury status was revealed. As The severity of Doncic’s injury in the Lakers it was speculated, the head coach JJ Redick that’s exactly what he talked about before Saturday’s game when the team takes on the Warriors.
Redick would say on Saturday night that Doncic has a “slight hamstring strain” and will be considered “day by day”, according to ClutchPoints Lakers reporter David Mendez-Japkovic.
“JJ Redick says Luka Doncic has mild hamstring strain and will be day-to-day,” Mendez-Japkovic wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
While Doncic will miss some time, it doesn’t appear to be long-term, as further reporting from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin would suggest that the left hamstring injury not a “big question”.
“There is some initial optimism that Luka Doncic is not dealing with a major left hamstring issue. However, the Lakers star is doubtful to play Saturday against the Golden State Warriors, sources told ESPN,” McMenamin wrote on X on Friday.
There’s obviously no doubting how important Doncic is to Los Angeles, as he leads the entire NBA with averages of 32.8 points, 8.6 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from the bench.
Either way, the Lakers are hoping to get Doncic back sooner rather than later as the team is 31-19 heading into Saturday’s game against the Warriors, which puts them in fifth place in the Western Conference. After the Warriors game on Saturday, Doncic’s next chance to return would be Monday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
