JJ Redick reveals Jackson Hayes potential injury return timeline

LOS ANGELES – What was a common theme for Los Angeles Lakers this season, the injury bug keeps popping up. The Lakers recently brought back Rui Hachimura, but Jackson Hayes is currently sidelined with a groin injury. Hayes will miss his second straight game as the Lakers play the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday and head coach JJ Redick provided an updateand when the team could expect him back in the lineup.
“He’s got hamstring tendinopathy,” Redick said before the Hornets game. “Hopefully it’s a short-term thing, and hopefully he’ll be back at some point this weekend.”
Jackson Hayes originally suffered a hamstring injury during the Lakers’ loss to the Sacramento Kings last weekend. In just over 19 minutes of play, he finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
The Lakers have another set of back-to-back games this weekend, starting with a trip up north against the Portland Trail Blazers before returning home on Sunday to face the Toronto Raptors. Hayes could probably make the lineup back during one of those games.
Hayes was a pleasant discovery for the Lakers this season. He’s noticeably improved in terms of rebounding and short-throw decision-making. He thrived in his role as the team’s backup center, and filled in well when Deandre Ayton was out.
Hayes has appeared in 32 games so far, including four starts, averaging just over 17 minutes per game. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 76.6 percent from the field. He re-signed with the Lakers last offseason on a one-year deal.
