JJ Redick’s message to Luke Kennard after trade deadline deal

The Los Angeles Lakers made a big splash on NBA trade deadline, trading for Luke Kennard from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Gabe Vincent. After the Lakers traded the shooter, the coach of the Lakers JJ Redick had a simple message for the newest player.
‘He’s one of the best shooters in the NBA and I’m going to encourage him to shoot more’ – JJ Redick gives his first thoughts on Lakers trade for Luke Kennard, while praising Gabe Vincent for his time with the Lakers pic.twitter.com/vI7ua5vJv7

The Lakers have been quiet for most of the NBA trade deadline. However, they scored at the last moment, acquiring a valuable scorer from the bench. Many have given Big kudos to the Lakers for the deal. While many believed that Lakers would chase Giannis Antetokounmpo, instead, they took a smaller route, looking for a scorer off the bench.
Kennard had a solid season off the bench for the Hawks, averaging 7.9 points per game while shooting 53.8% from the floor, including 49.7% from beyond the arc. His 49.7% three-point shooting leads the NBA. In the end, the Lakers badly needed this as they currently rank 19th in three-point shooting percentage.
Up until this point, the Lakers’ best shooter from beyond the arc was Rui Hachimura, who hit 43.8% of his three-pointers. Likewise, Austin Reaves made 37.2% of his three-point attempts. Everyone else hit less than 35% of their attempts.
There were many of them thoughts on the Lakers trade for Kennard. But it could become even more important if Luka Dončić missed every moment due to a hamstring injury. The Lakers are currently 31-19 and in fifth place in the Western Conference. Getting a valuable scorer like Kennard can help them climb the table. If they were to face a team like the Denver Nuggets or Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round, they would need all the help they can get. Kennard could likely make his debut Saturday against the Golden State Warriors.
