Joe Mazzula shoots down rumors about Knicks coaching offer

Wednesday night, Boston Celtics They will open the 2025-26 NBA season with a home game against division rival Philadelphia 76ers. It’s been a tumultuous offseason for the Celticswho were forced to part with several key pieces, including Kristaps Porzingis and Jure Holiday, entering this season without Jayson Tatum, ruled out due to injury.

Recently, NBA reporter Mark Stein shed light on the New York Knicks’ reported interest in Joe Mazzulla as their next head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau; however, Macula itself has since been shot down those rumors.

“It never got to me. There’s only one team I want to coach: the Boston Celtics. I’ll be here as long as I’m owned and the city will have me. There’s no other team I’m coaching, it’s here or I’ll be coaching my kid’s soccer team or something,” Mazzulla, a former Mass Brian member, said on Twitter.

Celtics fans have come to love Joe Mazzula over the last few years after they kind of got off on the wrong foot in 2022-23.

Entering this season, few expected the Boston Celtics to be legitimate contenders due to Tatum’s injury, as well as the trade of Porzingis and Holiday.

While the Celtics still employ both Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, there isn’t much depth on this roster, especially in the frontcourt, as the team also recently watched Al Horford walk out the door to join the Golden State Warriors.

Macula will likely have to do the best coaching job of his career to keep this Boston team afloat, though a weak Eastern Conference state should help them a little as they look to stay competitive.

Either way, the Celtics and 76ers will open their seasons against each other on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM ET from Boston.
