Joe Musgrove on former Dodger Walker Buhler joining SD

Intensive National League West rivalry between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers does not stop Joe Musgrove from welcoming a former rival to the club.
During a recent appearance on “Friar Territory,” the right-hander from San Diego put things into perspective considering former Dodger Buehler joined the Padres.
“I think they’d welcome it, man. I’d welcome it, you know,” said Musgrove, who is with the Padres through 2021.
“I think as a football player, man, we love this game. I don’t think it’s easier for a fan to say, how could you go play for another side? But as a football player, you’re trying to make money, provide for your family and you don’t want to walk away from the game. And if it’s the only chance you’ve got, I think you take it, you know.”
Musgrove acknowledges the sheer hatred Padres fans and Dodgers supporters have for each other, but said it’s not as harsh on the players, which is why he sees no problem with Buehler joining the organization.
“And I think there’s always a little bit more animosity between the fans toward each other than there is between the players and each other, added Musgrove. “I mean, there’s definitely something between us and the Dodgers. You know, we don’t care too much about them. They don’t care about us, but it’s not the pure level of hate that you see with some fans.”
The 31-year-old Buehler signed a one-year, $1.5 million minor league deal with the Padres in February and will look to impress the club in spring training and earn a spot in San Diego’s rotation.
Buehler played seven seasons with the Dodgers and joined the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies before taking his talents to San Diego.
