Joel Embiid: Philadelphia 76ers center fined again by NBA for ‘lewd gesture’
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid was NBA fined $50,000 (£38,000)., external for what the league determined was a “lewd gesture” on the field.
The incident occurred during Philadelphia’s 109-108 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday when Embiid, 31, scored while being fouled and then made a groin chopping motion.
Embiid was penalized multiple times for the gesture.
In a publish on X,, external which also featured an NBA social media post detailing his sanctions, Embiid appeared to suggest the gesture was similar to the signal officials give when they call a foul for blocking.
He said: “You’d better start punishing referees for the ‘lewd’, ‘blocking foul’ gesture because I’m not allowed to do that.”
The Cameroon-born Embiid did not play in Sunday’s 129-105 win over the Brooklyn Nets, sitting out the game as he continues to recover from a knee injury that required surgery earlier this year.
