Joel Embiid responds to $50,000 fine for ‘lewd’ gesture

The Philadelphia 76ers have come out and had a strong start to the season, as the backcourt of Tyrese McKay and VJ Edgecombe was a defender’s worst nightmare. Joel Embiid he’s also starting to show up game after game, and is starting to find his style.

You can always tell when Embiid is feeling himself when he starts trolling the opposition, which is what he did against the Boston Celtics in their last game. Unfortunately for him, it is it cost him some money out of pocket, according to the NBA.

“Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has been fined $50,000 for an on-court lewd gesture, James Jones, executive vice president, head of basketball operations, announced today. The incident occurred with 7:08 left in the first quarter of the 76ers’ 9-10 loss at Xfinity Mobile Arena,” the NBA wrote.

Embiid was not a fan of the fine, and he replied on social media saying: “You’d better start punishing the refs for doing the ‘lewd’, ‘blocking foul’ gesture because I’m not allowed to do that.”

After Embiid scored, it almost looked like he was mimicking the refs, which he now knows is not a good thing because he will be fined. On the other hand, it’s good to see Embiid return to form after missing most of last season with a knee injury. So far it is The 76ers had Embiid on a minutes limitwhich is good for his long-term health, but he wasn’t the biggest fan of the move.

“I’d rather not have little restrictions, but I’d rather get that out of the way…Longer periods, you’re actually going to be able to let the game come to you. But then again, longer periods also mean you might be done by halftime. But I can’t sit too long,” Embiid said.

As the season continues, there’s no doubt Embiid will get more minutes, but that will depend on how his knee responds to the extra work.
