John Lynch confirms that Brandon Ayuk’s time in SF is over

Brandon Aiuk is a very good receiver in the NFL. His 2022 and 2023 seasons were electric for San Francisco 49ers. The former first-round pick has been with the organization since 2020, but hasn’t played at all this season as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered last season.

His year 2024 was also difficult. He played in just seven games and caught 25 passes for 324 yards and zero touchdowns. Two seasons before that, Ayuk had combined to catch 153 passes for 2,356 yards and 15 touchdowns. Ayuk is a playmaker in this league who can score on any route and break away from any defender.

There will be teams that will take a chance on him. According to John LynchAjuk’s time with The Niners are probably done.

“I think it’s safe to say he played his last snap with the 49ers.”

Multiple reports say Ayuk has stopped showing up at the facilities. Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan couldn’t figure it out. Post courtesy of David Lombardi.

Lynch: “I’d like to know. I can’t help you.”

Shanahan: “It’s confusing to all of us. … We still don’t quite understand it.”

Injuries have been the story of this team for the last decade. What the Niners have been able to accomplish during this era is incredible, considering the big players have missed games. Trent Williams named Kyle Shanahan Coach of the Year after leading the team to another playoff victory in 2025-26.

The 49ers haven’t had much receiving help this season. Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson have been the main trio all year. Robinson has improved a lot lately, but no one has been able to replicate what Ayuk brought to the table. The Niners don’t necessarily need to find someone to replace Ayuk quickly; however, another star at that position with George Kittle for the long haul won’t hurt.
