Jonathan Cuminga’s big debut will rock Warriors fans

On Tuesday evening, Jonathan Cumminga he debuted for Atlanta Hawks following the Golden State Warriors’ decision to trade him, along with Buddy Hield, for Kristaps Porzingis. And as (un)luck would have it, Jaylen Johnson, the Hawks’ main man and starting forward, had to leave early due to a hip injury — paves the way for Cummings to sweep the Washington Wizards in his first game with his new team.

In just 24 minutes off the bench, Kuminga scored 27 points on 9-12 shooting from the field, leading all players in scoring in the process. If Johnson were to miss time for the Hawks, Kuminga would be called upon to take over the bigger goals, and based on the early returners, he’s more than capable of doing that for a team looking to establish itself as a playoff team.

As a result of Kuminga’s brilliant first game in a Hawks uniform, some Warriors fans expressed dismay that head coach Steve Kerr couldn’t make it in Cummings’ five seasons with the team, especially when Golden State had just lost a close game against the lifeless New Orleans Pelicans.

“He will never forget what Kerr did to Kuminga,” Ks user @__pettihardavai wrote.

“Like the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, some people will say, ‘well Kuminga didn’t do this for Golden State…’. Well, to that I say this, it’s hard to do anything off the bench,” @Rickigreeneize he added.

“I see Kuminga had 27 for ATL tonight… glad GS decided they don’t really benefit from that kind of athleticism, scoring or rim shooting,” @klevis1123 further.

“Kuminga with 27 points on 12 shots in just 24 minutes…extremely talented, but Kerr wanted to make him sit in the corner,” @RookieHigh pointed out.

“Warriors could have used Kuminga tonight but at least they have Porzingis..wait…Porzingis not playing…” @NinerGangManni he joked.
