Jonathan Cumminga makes the most obvious trade demand of all time
As it is The Golden State Warriors are in the dog days of their seasonthe team will have to do some work on the young forward Jonathan Cumminga. Doc Rumors swirled around Kuminga and the Warriors for some time now, the latest news has strongly suggested that he would prefer to be elsewhere.
According to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of ESPN, Kuminga “requested a trade” from Golden State before the Feb. 5 deadline.
“On the first day of eligibility, fifth-year forward Jonathan Cumminga has requested a trade from the Golden State Warriors, league sources tell ESPN,” Charania and Slater wrote Thursday morning. “Due to the contract he signed this summer, Kuminga could not be traded until Jan. 15. The trade deadline is Feb. 5.”
Jonathan Kuminga’s days with the Warriors were numbered
As it seemed obvious that Kuminga was nearing his final days with the Warriors, previous reports have suggested a trade near the deadline is a likely outcome. ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel reported earlier this month that “nothing has changed on that front” regarding Cumminga not wanting to play for Golden State, especially since he hasn’t been on the floor since Dec. 18.
“It’s been over a year since it became clear that Kuminga no longer wanted to play for the Warriors, and yet nothing has changed on that front. The former seventh pick hasn’t played for Golden State since Dec. 18, and that’s unlikely to change between now and NBA trade deadline On February 5th, league sources told ClutchPoints,” Siegel wrote on January 6th.
Tensions between Kuminga and Golden State are public knowledge, especially regarding the head coach, Steve Kerr, and the player, who were not on the same page. Still, with Kuminga not playing since Dec. 18, not because of any issue, as he was not on the injury report, it remains to be seen which teams pursue the 2021 first-round pick.
The Warriors are 22-19, which puts them in eighth place in the West heading into Thursday’s game against the New York Knicks.
