Jonathan Cumminga reiterates Dubs’ ‘commitment’ after starring in win

It’s hard to imagine now, but it used to be like that Jonathan Cumminga he already played his last game for Golden State Warriors. It’s just phenomenal for him to go from an expendable piece to someone who is fully integrated into the Warriors’ system. On Monday night, Kuminga had another incredible outingthis time he dropped a team-high 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Dubs to a 131-118 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Kuminga is showing playfulness, hustle and effort on both ends of the floor that haven’t been seen from him in the past. There was a reason head coach Steve Kerr kept him on such a short leash, as he tended to clash with the Dubs’ system that was based on ball and player movement. But Kuminga is playing his best basketball yet, and he’s been a big reason why Golden State has started the season 3-1.

In his presser after the game, Kuminga reiterated just how dedicated he’s for the team, and he shows it by doing his best on the glass and defensively.

“Commitment to just doing it. I just do it no matter what. Even if you don’t shoot, I don’t shoot, if I see the ball, I just get the ball and just go out there and chase those rebounds whatever you’re doing. Some of them help win games. That’s something I try really hard to do all year long, just on Ku looking for the ball,” he said, via 95.7 The Game on Ks (formerly Twitter).

Rebounding has been a bit of an Achilles heel for the Warriors in recent seasons, so Cummings’ development in this regard is no small thing.

Kuminga has come a long way from someone Kerr decided to bench in some key moments last season. He’s become someone the Warriors call upon to go against the opposing team’s best perimeter player on defense, and he’s been a monster on the glass to start the year — he’s currently averaging eight rebounds per contest, which would break his previous career high in terms of single-season average.

The Warriors will look to continue that later tonight when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers at home for the second straight set.
