Jonathan Kuminga impresses with his first game with the Hawks!

We will have to wait until we have a duel worthy of the name between Hawks and the Wizards. Both teams have made significant changes to their rosters in recent weeks, including the move from Atlanta to Washington for Trae Young. But tonight’s meeting clearly swung in favor of the Hawks, who dominated from A to Z, while the franchise from the capital of the United States is still developing without Tree Young, but also Anthony Davis and even Alex Sarr, injured in the hamstring.
A 7-0 run capped by Jalen Johnson’s third-down layup set the tone for the game, as the home team played at 200 mph for three quarters to build a 38-length lead. After a 3-pointer from Vincent-Okongwu, it was Jonathan Kuminga who shined first, scoring a layup and a dunk before serving up Zachary Rizaher for another dunk in transition and then Gabe Vincent for a 2+1. The former Warriors star didn’t stop there, hitting his first 3-pointer of the night to put Atlanta up +18 at the end of the first quarter (33-15).
The second quarter was more balanced (63-43), and then the Hawks regained the fatal boost, between an 18-2 run completed by threes from Jonathan Cumminga and Gabe Vincent, and 12 points in a row by Cuminga to end the third quarter with a clear score: 100 to 6! While Jameer Watkins and Will Riley did their best to save the Wizards’ honor, Jonathan Cumminga stayed on the floor until five minutes remained with 27 points in 24 minutes. The damage was already done anyway, and Atlanta was then able to run to the final buzzer with a score of 119-98.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Hungry Jonathan Cumminga. He obviously missed the pitch! Finally cleared to play, the former Warriors player did not fail to show that he has lost none of his talent. Terrible “slasher”, he stood out with honest attacks towards the circle, but also with a nice 3/4 on 3 points. With his 27 points (on 9/12 shooting), he equaled his season high, but he also put the Atlanta crowd in his pocket.
Jaylen Johnson is coming out fast. The new Hawks playmaker did not last long on the floor. Shot quickly in the hip, he was initially ruled questionable before definitively retiring. His absence didn’t exactly handicap his teammates in this one-sided game. Nickeil Alexander-Walker also had a sprained ankle late in the match, but was able to finish the match without incident
Tribute to Tree Young. The new leader of the Wizards returned for the first time to the land of his former exploits. Although he was not in uniform, he sat on the bench to encourage his teammates during a very complicated match for them. He will take solace in the standing ovation he received from his former fans with the usual airing of a tribute video just before the break.
